Local Terowie Indigenous woman, Lucy Evans recently completed a graduate certificate in Indigenous research.
The program was developed by James Cook University and gives students an understanding of how to research and advise people.
Mrs Evans was one of 12 graduates and researched about the Aboriginal Community Centre in Port Pirie and the funding that is required in order for it to function.
She documented on the evolution of the community centre.
This is just another accolade to add to her name.
She is also a Justice of the Peace, involved with Aboriginal Health Advisory Chair and a member of CANDO.
Mrs Evans said she enjoyed the research and the community involvement and that hopefully it will help with reconciliation.
She also said “I’m one of the lucky ones to have done this course”.
“Non-Aboriginals do research on our culture all the time, so it is good for an Indigenous person to carry out the research”.
The course can lead to tertiary study for the graduates and helps them to carry out their own research in the community.
