Fifty women took advantage of a wonderful day of pure relaxation at the Blacksmith’s Chatter in Orroroo last Thursday.
The day was supported by Care Outreach SA and the Mid North Division of Rural Medicine (MNDRM) and Flinders and Far North Division of General Practice (FFNDGP).
Health Programs Manager, Toni Bastian, said “Options for Change” is a Combined Division Drought Response Project, with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health & Aging to provide assistance to their communities affected by drought.”
Apart from enjoying delicious food and a variety of teas and coffee for morning and afternoon tea and lunch, there were other tempting choices on offer.
Manicures, pedicures and massages - feet, hands, neck, shoulders and back - were all available, making it hard to decide “which ones will I try?”
Rural Counsellor Roger Kleinig showed the participants some regulated breathing techniques to help calm down and control stress and anxiety. It was fun practising this kind of breathing.
SA Director of Care Outreach, Barb Granzien, and Orroroo’s representative, Rita Anesbury, brought along some beautiful pampering prizes for three lucky ticket holders.
They explained a little about their organisation’s work in drought affected areas.
Libbie Coote and Carolyn Walsh from the Women’s Information Service spoke about the Information Hub the service is setting up in the Orroroo Health Centre.
This should prove invaluable in helping women find out easily where to find whatever help or information they need.
There was plenty of time to have a chat, meet up with old friends or meet new ones from all around the district, as far north as Quorn.
All in all, a bit of pampering in a very relaxed and congenial atmosphere made it a great day out.
